  1. Tell us about yourself and what you do for a living

Meet Andrew – #SneakyDuckers – Issue 13

We love the people who wear our glasses. Most of all we love their stories. Here is one of them.

Meet Andrew, a Professor of Architecture at the University of Sydney who writes books about “pointy-headed” architectural themes. Find out about his latest work, Rome, and why he digs our Sleeping Fox and Critic frames.

  1. Tell us about yourself and what you do for a living

I’m a professor in the School of Architecture, Design & Planning at the University of Sydney. These days I have feet planted in two cities—working in Sydney and living on the Gold Coast with my wife Ruth (we’re both originally from NZ) and 9yo daughter Amelia. At Sydney, I teach history of architecture, mostly to students who will one day become architects. My books range from pointy-headed kinds of themes (what makes architecture an art? what is discomfort for architecture? or history?) to documentation of knowledge we might otherwise overlook (on NZ modernism, or the architecture and urbanism of the Gold Coast).

5 Tips for What to do with your Old Glasses

Do you have a pile of glasses gathering dust at the back of your cupboard? Instead of chucking them out with the few things you can’t recycle (we’re looking at you paper coffee cups!), here are 5 tips on how you can put your old specs to better use.

1. Reuse Them

If your frames are in mint condition but just don’t do the job anymore – ie you can’t bloody see with them – look into getting your lenses remade. Continue reading “5 Tips for What to do with your Old Glasses”

.

1. Lighten up – Part 1: Lightweight frames

With the mercury hitting 30+ degrees every day, the last thing you need is a pair of heavy, chunky specs sweatin’ up your face. Lighten your load by trying a pair of skinny, semi rimless or rimless frames for size. Continue reading “Your Summer Glasses Buying Guide”

Introducing Sneaking Duck Blue Light Lenses

You may have heard the quackin’ awesome news that you can now order Blue Light lenses with all Sneaking Duck frames. But what is blue light and why do I need protection from it?

Blue Light and Your Eyesight

First of all – don’t freak out! Blue light is a totally natural thing and we get most of our exposure to it from our Sun. It comes with a heap of health benefits like boosting our alertness and improving memory and cognitive function (so like coffee, right?).

But like most things in life, too much blue light exposure can be bad for you. Even though your iPhone and TV emit tiny amounts of blue light compared to the Sun, using these electronic devices too often and too close to your face can damage the light sensitive cells in your retina. Excessive screen time (about 2+ hours) has also be linked to dry eyes, headaches, blurred vision, back pain and, in the long term, permanent vision loss (yikes!). Plus, those all-nighter Netflix marathons you’ve been having? Yeah, they can seriously mess with your circadian rhythms and lead to a whole lotta sleepless nights.

Eye-conic Moments in Politics

With the federal election only days away, we thought we’d take a break from opinion polls and Fake Tradies and look at something slightly more eye-opening – the role the humble spectacles have played on the political stage. From game-changing glasses to fashion flops, here’s 3 of our faves:

1. Julia Gillard

When the Prime Minister fronted the National Press Club in January 2013 she had two major announcements – the election date and a new look. A new pair of rose-coloured specs to be exact.
