Meet Sepora – #SneakyDuckers – Issue 8

Posted on Categories fun, Sneaky Duckers

We love the people who wear our glasses. Most of all we love their stories. Here is one of them.

Meet Sepora, a Kiwi living in Sydney who mixes her day job with an amazing array of creative pursuits…all done in her spectacular collection of Sneaking Ducks!

  1. Hey Sepora, tell us a bit about yourself and what you do for a living?

I’m a Samoan born Kiwi that’s called Sydney home for more than a decade. By day I’m a paper-pusher for a large property development company, and by night (and weekends / whenever I can), I spread my rainbow wings and write music, play gigs around Sydney, style products that I love, and photograph anything and everything.

  1. What’s the coolest gig you’ve ever played?

There are so many to choose from that I just have to pick my top two! I helped curate an “underground” gig on King St in Newtown which was just above a retail block and meant we could make as much noise as we liked. The coolest and most challenging gig I’ve ever been booked to play would have to be Late Night Library which takes place in the King’s Cross library on a weeknight. I love that there are these really cool events popping up around Sydney in the face of the lockout laws and the decline of live music venues. It’s a free event where all the artists are paid by Sydney City Council, and they serve cheese and wine! It’s basically nirvana for self-employed musicians. I highly recommend that anyone reading this check it out, especially on Wednesday 25 May (wink wink, nudge nudge).

  1. Describe yourself in three words!

Loud. Quirky…………………………………………….. Indecisive.

  1. What do you do for fun?

I love having a good yarn, eating great food, and spending quality time with the people I love. If there are board games or any kind of gathering where I can be outside in the sun or at the beach you can count me in! As a self-proclaimed Queer Captain I love attending any queer event in our beautiful city and meeting sparkly new unicorns. A monthly event I attend and perform at regularly is Chicks With Picks. Thanks to these folks I’ve got the best queer squad in town.

  1. Your Sneaking Duck frames of choice?

The hardest question of them all. And because I’m so indecisive, I have two go with my top two absolute favourites… Pieno and Full Bench! Both are so versatile with a perfect blend of classic and modern with a twist! Especially great if I’m going from work straight to a gig.

Special mention to my Deep Blue frames, my first Sneaking Duck love.

  1. How does Sneaking Duck fit into your lifestyle?

What I’m wearing expresses who I am and how I’m feeling on any given day. Wearing a great ensemble can help me feel so confident and having glasses that reflect how I feel on the inside is like a diamond encrusted cherry on top. I often work my entire outfit around my glasses, shoes, and accessories.

Details, baby.

  1. Where do you go for inspiration?

This might seem obvious, but I go to gigs and creative performance events! There’s something about seeing musicians/artists/creatives doing what they do best in the flesh… It inspires me to be better in every way. I dream of moving people as much as I’ve been moved at gigs.

  1. Staycation or Vacation?

I’m an absolute pro at Staycations but I have to go with Vacation. I’ve never had the opportunity to travel extensively so the wanderlust is strong within me. It also helps that I love flying! Bring on the crying babies and airplane food.

  1. What advice do you have for young creatives trying to crack into the music industry?

Learn to play an instrument. Write your own songs. Support other musicians. And a piece of advice that I received from my head music teacher that’s applicable to all aspects of life: “Don’t Be a Dick” 🙂
